Timeless Style: Peter Copping Heads Oscar de la Renta

Peter Copping, who Oscar de la Renta chose to succeed him presented his first collection this week, just three months after taking on the role of artistic director.  Previously, he was at Nina Ricci for five years as artistic director.  Mr Copping managed to balance the de la Renta sensibility without being overly reverential, while subtly introducing his own.  He has moved the design house forward, making it more youthful and contemporary while maintaining the elegance, meticulous details and luxurious fabrics.

As Nicole Phelps of Style.com who attended the show observed, "On one side of the catwalk arrayed to the left and right of Oscar's widow Annette, were dames like Barbara Walters, Nancy Kissinger, Mica Ertegun and Anne Bass - honest to goodness buy-a-dress socialites as opposed to the borrow-a-dress socialites fashion manufactures for the front row nowadays.  Overall, I loved the collection, particularly the outfits for day and look forward to seeing how the de la Renta/Copping look evolves over time.
